1. Introduction This manual provides guidance for instructors teaching intramuscular (IM) injection techniques. It includes training structure, competency expectations, and instructional strategies. 2. Learning Objectives By the end of training, learners will be able to: Identify appropriate IM injection sites Select appropriate equipment Demonstrate safe IM injection technique Document medication administration correctly. 3. Training Structure The training is divided into theory, demonstration, hands-on practice, and competency assessment sections. - Theory Topics: Indications and contraindications Anatomy of injection sites Equipment selection Infection control and safety. - Demonstration: Instructors should show step-by-step IM injection technique, including site landmarking and the Z-track method. - Practice: Trainees practice on injection pads, mannequins, or simulation models while receiving instructor feedback. 4. Step-by-Step Technique - Perform hand hygiene - Verify medication order - Prepare equipment and medication - Landmark injection site - Clean skin with antiseptic - Insert needle at 90 degrees - Inject medication slowly - Withdraw needle and apply pressure - Dispose of sharps - Document administration 5. Competency Assessment Use a structured checklist to evaluate performance in preparation, medication handling, technique, and post-care. 6. Instructor Tips Emphasise safety and anatomical accuracy Correct learner hand positioning and angle Encourage slow, controlled injection speed Reinforce proper sharps disposal
