Service Description

1. Course Overview • Course Title: Basic Life Support (BLS) Training • Duration: 9-5pm • Delivery: Classroom, simulation-based in Stratford, Also, GP practices located in Barking and Dagenham, Stratford, Romford and Ilford • Target Audience: Healthcare staff, support workers, administrative personnel, volunteers • Accreditation Standard: Aligned with Resuscitation Council UK (or relevant national guidelines) 2. Learning Objectives By the end of the training, participants will be able to: 1. Recognise the signs of cardiac arrest. 2. Assess an unresponsive patient safely. 3. Perform high-quality CPR on adults (and children/infants if included). 4. Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) correctly. 5. Manage choking emergencies. 6. Place a casualty in the recovery position. 7. Demonstrate safe and effective emergency response actions. 3. Course Content Structure 3.1 Introduction • Welcome and housekeeping • Course objectives • Importance of early intervention • Chain of survival 3.2 Recognition and Assessment • Identifying cardiac arrest • Checking responsiveness • Opening the airway • Breathing assessment • Calling for help / emergency protocols Basic Life Support Principles • CPR overview • Understanding circulation, oxygenation, and chest compressions • AED concept and safe use • Infection prevention (including hands-only CPR considerations) 3.3 Practical Skills Training (45–90 minutes) Adult CPR • Demonstration by instructor • Hands-on practice: • Chest compressions • Rescue breaths (if applicable) • Compression/breath ratio • Feedback devices (if available) AED Use • How to operate • Pad placement • Voice prompts • Shock delivery (simulated) • Safety warnings Managing Choking • Adult choking protocol • Back blows and abdominal thrusts • Conscious vs. unconscious choking scenarios Recovery Position • Step-by-step demonstration • Learner practice with partners Assessment 4.1 Practical Participants will demonstrate ability to: • Perform effective chest compressions • Deliver breaths correctly (if applicable) • Use an AED safely and accurately • Manage a choking casualty • Place someone in the recovery position Anaphylaxis and how to manage the symptoms , using the Epi pen. 4.2 Knowledge Assessment • Short MCQ Certification: Participants receive a certificate for BLS covering First Aid at work valid for 3 year
